Feedback from established peers and mentors.

I've started to get some feedback from my last intervention...

Brian Warrens the Director of the Backstage Centre (high end production house) gave me some very in-depth feedback. I respect Brian immensely and with his wealth of experience and knowledge, I though it would be hugely beneficial to me to get his take on my latest intervention. I have said from the start of this process that mentors do not always get the recognition the deserve. I know I am not the first to benefit from Brian's wisdom. He is an excellent human being and is always willing to give over his time. Not all do.

Please see my feedback below to Brians critique.

"Cracking intervention! I want more....! The feel of a good ‘sizzle’ is positioned well and in particular you bring us into a familiar territory and one which rarely misses anyone’s life. The direct presentational approach is married sympathetically with contextualised positions. From the start of the sequence I was almost expecting a chronological journey, a Prof Robert Winston style, instead we are able to consider your statement of intent within our own perceptions, experiences and mentoring influences. The sequences are linked with secure graphics, which work harmoniously with the feeling of 35mm in the documentary style. My experience with this film was over in a flash and I felt I needed a bit more air time to connect some of the content, for example, the shot of the students in which I felt I wanted to hear their voice.Production elements flow and mastering levels worked well on the format uploaded. How did you feel about self-directing and managing the process on both sides of the camera? Fascinating piece and I expect it to become a series on the Beeb soon!!"

Brian was a bit too kind in his appraisal but some things really stuck.

He picked up on the family environment. In truth, I hadn't really though that this is how I could sell my product. This is dictated by the fact that my theme is of mentoring but from this perspective the family will resonate with most people. Since my idea began, I have contemplated having my own family as a central point in which to expose my truths. A platform where I can speak personally and passionately about mentoring. Brian did pick up on a point of being able to hear the disaffected. Those that do not wish to be mentored or those who have simply been through a bad experience. Having the right mentor is vitally important. I will do more research into this and try to establish what is more important. A mentor and specialist in their subject or a mentor who can build up more of a rapport with their protege through other interests. There are so many threads to this that I have to be careful in which way I stitch together my overall story. This feedback has been invaluable to me.
